Fun crafts events for recreation centers

Recreation centers are great places for kids because they offer adult supervised play for children to enjoy. Often there are events for kids that feature arts and crafts. These are well attended because they appeal to the interests of children, especially when the focus is fun crafts to make. The imagination of kids can be stimulated with these events and they can learn while they play.

One event idea is to paint some craft sticks with glow in the dark pigments and then use a black light flashlight to make these artworks really glow. The kids will love the painting aspect and they will really enjoy seeing their work under the black light. Here are the items we will need to create this event.

These Fedmax jumbo craft sticks are wavy and eight inches long. They are made out of white birch which gives them a smooth surface to paint. They are an optimal thickness which makes them both sturdy but also pliable so we can build things with them. The kids can build whatever they want with these, glue them to poster board, or even use them as plant markers or inventive signs to paint.
This glow in the dark yellow pigment can be mixed with paint and will add a luminous glow to our project. This will work best if mixed with uncolored clear coat paint. Blending 1 part pigment to 2 parts clear paint will give us a vibrant yellow-green result. We can also use with colored paint with a higher ratio of pigment to pain to create a muted effect.
If we really want our projects to pop, and give the kids lots of choices, this 8 color glow in the dark set is just what we need. This kit has neon pink, blue, orange, white, red, yellow, green, and purple. We can even mix these colors for a greater selection. When exposed to light these paints will glow in the dark on their own, but when exposed to UV black light they will really shine.
This 100 watt UV black light is just what will make our project extra exciting to the kids. Once they have finished designing and painting their craft stick paintings or sculptures, we can turn out the lights. The creations will be glowing slightly, but when we shine this black light on them and they will seem to explode with color. This flashlight emits a black light that brings out the glow of phosphorescent paint. It requires 6 AA batteries and will run for a long time. The perfect partner for our project.

Letting kids have fun creating this project will really make it a successful event. We can gently guide the kids into the steps of the plan but then just sit back and watch them make fun crafts. At the end of our time we can use this light to show the kids their projects in full glowing color. Lots of fun to be had with this idea.
