5 games for team building

Team building is an important part of creating a functional work group. Productivity increases when coworkers know they can rely on each other. Often the best team building happens after hours, when things are more relaxed. A great way to enhance coworker relationships and build a sense of unity is through games. Those games that require gentle competition can allow workers to form cooperative teams in order to win the game. This can translate into a team spirit during work hours as well.

Here are some lighthearted games that can help work groups learn to build a team mentality.

Ring toss games are simple, but they are not always very easy. Everyone will find the game funny, but it will also bring out some playful competitiveness in the groups of players. The set up is easy with less than five minutes of effort. It is a great game for a backyard or patio, but it can be installed any place indoors. This comes with a 13 by 5 inch board and includes the hook and ring. There is a five foot telescoping pole. The object is to swing the ring, which is attached by a thread to the pole, onto the hook.

With a little creativity, we can make our own ring toss game. This DIY model contains the brass hook, ring, and string. Using these items we can make our own pole and place it on any backboard. The possibilities of this are endless. We could have the backboard represent something either about the company or perhaps about a goal for the team. The sky is the limit.

Here is another version of a ring toss game. This has five posts set up in an X pattern. It can be used indoors or outdoors. Rings are tossed so that they land over the posts. To make things harder we just need to back away from the board. Each post is assigned a certain number of points. This can bring out a lot of laughter as well as gentle competition.

This Tiki Toss game has a multi colored surfboard as the back drop. This is great for a beach themed party or outing. We can use the board inside or out and this could make a great addition to the work break room. The backboard is made from bamboo and all the components for play are included. The rules are that a player has 10 attempts to swing and try and hook the ring. The first player or team to reach 11 points wins the game.

This is a desktop version of the Tiki Toss game. It has a box that contains scoring rings. There is a single tall post in the center and two posts on opposite edges of the box. The ring is suspended on a thread. The goal is to swing the ring onto your team’s hook. A great way to play this game in the office.
